The Illinois AP Broadcasters Association awards are for acknowledging excellence in radio and television journalism produced by AP members. The contest was open to all Illinois TV and radio stations which were in good standing with the Associated Press and for work from those stations broadcast during the 2009 calendar year. The awards are given strictly for journalistic excellence -- production value does not necessarily play into a decision. Awards are based ONLY on the entries received. If a station did not enter its broadcasts by the deadline, they cannot win an award. What this means is if station WXYZ wins a "Best" Award, it does not necessarily mean that WXYZ is the best in the state, just the best from the entries received, from the qualifying stations.

The AP awards will be presented to the winners on Saturday, April 17th, at the Illinois News Broadcasters Association Spring 2010 Convention at the the Oak Brook Marriott Resort in Oak Brook, IL.
