'Big Hurt' to have role on Sox telecasts on Comcast SportsNet

Frank Thomas is returning to the White Sox. At least on television.

According to Comcast SportsNet reporter Chuck Garfien, Mr. Thomas will be part of SportsNet's coverage team for all Sox home games that air on the network.

Writes Mr. Garfien: "Besides joining Bill and I in the studio, he’ll also be doing segments at the ballpark. Want to see Frank in the cage with Gordon Beckham? Done. How about Frank sitting down with Jim Thome when the Twins come to town? Done.

"Or Frank putting the past behind him and speaking with Sox GM Kenny Williams?

"Hmmmm. That might come sooner than you think."

On Sunday, Mr. Thomas did an interview with Ozzie Guillen that will air on the pregame show today.

This is a good landing spot for Mr. Thomas. It will give him a chance to reconnect with Sox fans.

There was a disconnect at times during his days on the South Side. I have a feeling Mr. Thomas could be more popular in retirement than he was as a player.

That's as it should be, considering he was the greatest hitter in franchise history.
