The 2010 Major League Baseball season is now in full gear. As a way of celebrating that, Arbitron released "The Arbitron Sports Report: PPM Radio Listening for Pro Baseball," a comprehensive look at baseball radio listening habits in their PPM markets. The report covers 25 teams in 23 Arbitron markets where the Portable People Meter system is in service, for the 2009 MLB season.

The new report shows that the top 10 teams each average over 115,000 listeners per game in their home market. In the all ages ratings, the top 10 baseball teams, ranked by cume are:
1. New York Yankees - 412,500 cume - WCBS-AM
2. Chicago Cubs - 277,100 cume - WGN-AM
3. New York Mets - 277,000 cume - WFAN-AM
4. Philadelphia Phillies - 160,300 cume - WPHT-AM
5. Detroit Tigers - 158,600 cume - WXYT-AM/FM
6. San Francisco Giants - 151,600 cume - KNBR-AM
7. St. Louis Cardinals - 135,200 cume - KTRS-AM
8. Boston Red Sox - 128,800 cume - WEEI-AM
9. Chicago White Sox - 122,700 cume - WSCR-AM
10. Los Angeles Dodgers - 115,600 - KABC-AM

"Through the years there's been no better way to follow a team than daily and nightly broadcasts of games on the radio," said Chris Meinhardt, Arbitron's Sports Manager. "America's relationship with baseball is as healthy as ever. Arbitron's inaugural PPM Radio Listening for Pro Baseball shows that relationship and loyalty by reporting the 2009 performance of 25 teams in 23 commercialized PPM markets. Tradition, success and to a lesser extent, the team's flagship station drive audiences. St. Louis, Detroit, Philadelphia, Boston and Minnesota dominated their markets with broadcasts that averaged more than 14 shares from Men aged 25-54 when games were being played."
