HA! I spoke too soon. I knew his apology was a legal mistake but couldn't anticipate what ESPN did. My guess is that people from MADD heard the apology, researched his incident and complained formally to ESPN. He should have kept his lips shut.

: Sources say that Harry Teinowitz has been suspended for the rest of the week at ESPN Radio sports talk WMVP-AM (1000), where he was a co-host of the afternoon drive show from 2 to 6 p.m. called “The Afternoon Saloon.”

: Teinowitz’s suspension, starting Wednesday and continuing through Friday, comes after he publicly apologized at the top of Tuesday’s “Afternoon Saloon” show for what he characterized as his “horrible mistake in judgment.”

: Teinowitz was charged with driving under the influence and improper lane usage by Skokie police Friday night after he was pulled over in his Nissan Murano SUV at 11:50 p.m. A test put Teinowitz’s blood-alcohol level at .131 percent, police said. The standard to be charged with DUI in Illinois is .08 percent.

: An ESPN spokesman would not comment on Teinowitz’s suspension Wednesday, but said “we at ESPN take this matter very seriously, and we decided it was best for him (Teinowitz) to address the situation directly with listeners, which he did on Tuesday.”

: During Tuesday’s on-air mea culpa, Teinowitz also said he took full responsibility for his actions: “I let you guys, the listeners who I love, down, I let the company I work for down. And I’m deeply sorry.”

: But Teinowitz also said his situation was a legal matter, and he would have no further comment for now.
