CLTV's new political talk show invites audience participation

CLTV is going interactive with the addition of a new half-hour nightly call-in show focusing on politics, the economy and local issues.

"Garrard McClendon Live" will air at 6:30 p.m. (and repeat at 9:30 p.m.) Monday through Friday, starting next week.

McClendon, who is a regular commentator for "Chicago Tonight" on Window to the World Communications' WTTW-Channel 11, has hosted "The McClendon Report" on Midway Broadcasting news/talk WVON-AM (1690) and radio and cable outlets in northwest Indiana.

He is the author of Ax or Ask?: The African American Guide to Better English, and he's pursuing a doctorate at Loyola University.

Steve Farber, general manager of the Tribune Co.-owned cable news channel, is overseeing a realignment of programming and resources that began last month with the reduction of "metromix," the entertainment and nightlife magazine show hosted by Marcus Leshock, from five nights a week to two.

Also on tap is a new weekly health program, scheduled to start in October.

But the centerpiece of the new lineup is McClendon's talk show. "With the election approaching, we are giving viewers more of a voice on CLTV," Farber said.

Viewers are invited to interact with McClendon by phone, e-mail or blog during each broadcast.
