Listeners' reactions ranged from amazement to sympathy when Johnnie Putman revealed that she suffers from anosmia, a condition that causes a complete loss of taste and smell.

The veteran overnight host on Tribune Co.-owned news/talk WGN-AM (720) said the ailment was triggered one year ago by an upper-respiratory virus. There's no known cure.

Putman's husband and co-host, Steve King, previously shared with their audience that he suffers from celiac sprue, a complete intolerance to gluten.
