Former Chicago television newsman Larry Mendte was charged Monday with one felony count of illegally snooping on the email of Alycia Lane, his former co-anchor in Philadelphia.

Both Mendte and Lane were dismissed earlier from KYW-TV.

Known here as "Scary Larry," Mendte was a news anchor and reporter at CBS-owned WBBM-Channel 2 from 1991 to 1996.
