Fred Weintraub announced plans Wednesday to step down after 11 years as station manager of Weigel Broadcasting's WCIU-Channel 26. He's moving this winter to London, where his wife, Sharon Weintraub, has been transferred by BP to manage a global trading systems project.

Weintraub, 48, joined Weigel as director of news operations in 1996. He was promoted to station manager the following year.

He previously had been vice president and station manager of WEHS-Channel 60 and head of broadcasting for the Chicago Board Options Exchange.

"I've had the good fortune of having the ride of a lifetime at Weigel Broadcasting," he said. "I look forward to my continuing relationship with Weigel and the upcoming season as executive producer of the "Me-TV High School Game of the Week."
