Goldblatt to join Ch. 32 newscast; starts next week

Jeff Goldblatt was named Monday as the new co-anchor of Fox-owned WFLD-Ch. 32's 9 p.m. news, confirming a Chicago Tribune report last week.

Goldblatt, a Chicago-based correspondent for Fox News Channel since 1999, will make his on-air debut with Channel 32 co-anchor Robin Robinson next week, WFLD Vice President and General Manager Pat Mullen said.

"We're thrilled to have Jeff join the Fox Chicago news team," Mullen said in a statement. "His extensive local and national broadcast news experience, as well as his depth and breadth of knowledge about the Chicago market, makes him the ideal co-anchor for our late news program."

Goldblatt ostensibly replaces Mark Suppelsa, who joined Tribune Co.'s WGN-Ch. 9 in July after quitting Channel 32 in March. Tribune Co. also owns the Chicago Tribune.

David Novarro, who has been doubling up on WFLD's 9 p.m. show in Suppelsa's absence, will go back to co-anchoring only the station's 10 p.m. broadcast.

"I look forward to collaborating with the Fox Chicago team to bring viewers news about the issues and events that impact their lives," Goldblatt said.

Goldblatt anchored FNC's coverage of the death of President Gerald Ford and spent more than two months in New Orleans covering Hurricane Katrina and its effects. FNC also has sent him to report from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq and other global hot spots.

Fox News plucked Goldblatt from NBC-owned WTVJ-TV in Miami. He previously was the chief investigative correspondent for the nationally syndicated "American Journal" program, was a Washington correspondent for Belo Broadcasting, and worked at stations in Richmond, Va., and Wilmington, N.C.
