As Arbitron’s PPM electronic ratings service resumes its roll out in eight new markets next month, preparing for and understanding the methodology has become more important than ever. The PPM, which has already been commercialized in Houston and Philadelphia, is expected to become the ratings currency in all top 50 markets by 2010.

A panel of programmers, consultants and executives who work in new and existing PPM markets will share their experiences with the service during the R&R Convention session, PPM Prep School, on Wednesday, September 17 from 10:15 to 11:45 a.m at the Austin Hilton Hotel. They include: Beasley WRDW (Wired 96.5)/Philadelphia PD Leo Baldwin, Cox Radio Houston KKBQ/KTHT/KHPT/KHTC OM Johnny Chiang, Greater Media WMMR/Philadelphia PD Bill Weston, Emmis WKQX (Q101)/Chicago PD Marc Young, Arbitron VP of programming services and development Gary Marince and Media Monitors VP of marketing RCS Dwight Douglas.

The participants, led by moderator and R&R executive editor Paul Heine, will discuss how to prepare for the transition to metered ratings and how to use deeper, faster audience data to refine station programming and marketing strategies. The session will also look into Arbitron’s efforts to handle the challenges associated with PPM sample sizes, proportionality and recruitment.

The R&R Convention is co-located with the NAB Radio Show in Austin on Sept. 17-19. To register for the R&R Convention, visit RadioandRecords.com.
