Seven Questions with... Spike O'Dell

Introducing a new feature where we get to know a different side of some of your favorite WGN personalities! We'll ask 7 not-so-typical questions submitted by listeners. We're kicking off the feature with WGN's morning man Spike O'Dell. Be sure to read all the way to the end to learn who next issue's featured personality will be!

1) How did you get the nickname Spike?

I was named after Spike Jones...the goofy band director from the 40's and 50's. My mother was dancing to a Spike Jones record when her water broke. They said "let's get you to the hospital and get little Spike outta there!" The name stuck.

2) Name one person you haven't interviewed that you've always wanted to.

Neil Armstrong...the first man on the moon. I'm still working on it.

3) If a book was written about your life, what would the title be?

He's Not As Stupid As He Acts

4) What's the last thing you bought?

Floor mats for the truck

5) Name a TV show you're embarrassed to admit you watch.

The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross (he's the guy with the funky 1970's fro)

6) What's your earliest memory?

Being in the hospital at the age of 2 getting my tonsils out. I think it was the pain that left such a lasting impression

7) What's the craziest thing you've ever done?

Diving off of a bridge that crosses the Mississippi River. It was a dare. It almost killed me. (maybe I am as stupid as I act?!?)
