WGN's David Kaplan adds TV gig

Veteran Chicago sportscaster David Kaplan wraps up the year on a high note: Via agent Steve Mandell, he not only agreed to a three-year contract extension with Tribune Co.-owned news/talk WGN-AM (720), but he also just landed a prized television gig.

Starting Jan. 7, Kaplan will be permanent host of "Chicago Tribune Live," the Comcast SportsNet talk show airing from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. weekdays.

Under the new deals, Kaplan will anchor sports reports for John Williams' and Steve Cochran's afternoon shows on WGN from Comcast SportsNet studios. He'll continue as solo host of "Sports Central" from 7 to 9 p.m. weekdays on WGN.
