Cohen Named WBBM President-GM

Veteran broadcast, cable and syndication executive Bruno Cohen has been named president and general manager of CBS O&O WBBM Chicago.

The announcement was made Tuesday by Tom Kane, president-CEO, CBS Television Stations. Cohen is succeeding Joe Ahern, who is leaving the station to pursue other opportunities.

"Bruno Cohen is one of our finest and most innovative general managers and has done a tremendous job of building our Sacramento duopoly, growing our business and creating a strong identity for our stations in the marketplace," said Kane. "Throughout his career, he has been a winner everywhere he has been, from local stations to national cable news. We are confident that his breadth of experience and outstanding leadership abilities will be extremely well received by our employees as well as business and community leaders in Chicago and will help us to raise the bar considerably in this important market."

Kane added, "We would like to thank Joe Ahern for his many years of service. We sincerely appreciate his many contributions, including the development of CBS 2's new state-of-the-art broadcast center, and wish him the best in his future endeavors."

Cohen has been president-general manager of KOVR (CBS) and KMAX (CW), the CBS-owned stations in Sacramento, Calif., since CBS acquired KOVR in April 2005. Prior to that, he had been vice president-general manager of KMAX since 2004.

Before joining CBS, Cohen was the senior vice president of programming and executive vice president of business news for CNBC from 1996 to 2002.

Prior to that, Cohen was vice president and news director of WNBC New York from 1992 to 1996.

Cohen's background also includes work as a syndicated programming development executive for Buena Vista Productions in 1987-92. Prior to that, he worked for KPIX San Francisco as executive news producer and later news director in 1979-86. He also was a news producer for KDKA Pittsburgh in 1978-79 and got his start in television as a news producer for KEZI Eugene, Ore.

Cohen graduated from Princeton University with a B.A. in English.
