Emmy celebrates golden anniversary
Chicago TV Academy celebrates golden anniversary in high style
The glitterati of the Chicago television community will gather in black tie and long dresses Saturday for the 50th annual local Emmy Awards.
While the main event will be the announcement of winners in 57 categories, the evening also will pay homage to past and present stars of local television.
No host has been designated this year, but among presenters will be news anchors and others who spent significant parts of their careers on the air here.
Lester Holt will anchor "NBC Nightly News" on Saturday from NBC Tower before the event.
In contrast to recent years' scaled-down Emmy ceremonies, this year's will be a gala dinner. Also returning will be winners' acceptance speeches, which had been relegated offstage and streamed online since 2006.
Sponsored by the Chicago/ Midwest chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, it will be at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place.
