Mike Ward Stroke

An email came into ShopTalk yesterday from Rick Gevers. Rick reports that former Chicago and Washington News Director Mike Ward suffered a serious stroke two weeks ago:

His condition is apparently not life threatening, but the prognosis for his recovery is described as 'difficult at best'.

Mike most recently was ND of Gannett's WUSA-TV in Washington, a position he left in September after 16 months on the job. He'd previously spent a great deal of his career with NBC: as ND for WMAQ-TV in Chicago, as VP of Creative Services for WCAU-TV in Philadelphia, and as a GM for WNCN-TV in Raleigh when NBC owned that station. He began his career as a news photographer in Sioux Falls and later worked in Cleveland.

Mike's wife MAUREEN has been with him during this difficult time, as has WUSA GM ALLAN HORLICK and his wife. (Mike and Allan worked together at WMAQ, in addition to WUSA.)

Anyone wishing to send a card may do so by sending it to:

You could also send Mike's wife a note at: maureen @ suddenlysouthern.com
