WEEKEND SPOTLIGHT

Can't figure out your technology? Wonder what's wrong with your pet? Tempted to sue your neighbor? Well then you should be listening to WGN Weekends! Friday through Sunday brings you experts on everything from finance to film! New to The Voice, we'll feature a different weekend host each month... Up first, "Legally Speaking." Lawyers Greg Adamski and Karen Conti have recently expanded their show and can now be heard Sundays from 6-8pm. But, why wait, let's learn a little bit about them now!

This Month's Spotlight: Legally Speaking

How did you make the jump from the courtroom to the studio/airwaves?

In 1994, we represented serial killer John Wayne Gacy in his final set of death row appeals. There was an incredible onslaught of media attention from around the world. We were giving so many press conferences, television interviews and radio interviews that when the O. J. Simpson murders happened almost immediately after Gacy's execution, we became "legal experts" for many radio and television stations. About this same time, radio legend Clark Weber invited us to do the weekly "Ask the Lawyer" segment. The station manager asked us to do our own legal talk show, which we did for 3 years until WJJD closed down. So, we have Gacy, the Killer Clown, to thank for getting us into the radio business and Steve Cochran to thank for "rediscovering" us a couple years ago and convincing WGN that a legal talk show could be interesting.

In a nutshell, our radio career can be attributed to two clowns. . . .

What's the weirdest legal advice you were ever asked for?

Karen: I tried a divorce case with the sole issue being: who would get the marital toilet-- imported from China and made of solid jade.

Greg: In the 1980s, we represented the Deer of Illinois in challenging an ordinance allowing for the thinning of the herds.

If you weren't lawyers and radio hosts, what would you be?

Karen: Steve Cochran's valet or a party planner

Greg: The Commissioner of Baseball or a Historian of Obscure Facts

What do you enjoy most about doing your show?

Greg: Forcing people to listen to everything I have to say.

Karen: Just being in the WGN studios. My father was a professional comedian in Chicago for years and was often on Wally Phillips' show. I remember as a kid sitting with Jack Brickhouse and Lou Boudreau during rain delay broadcasts at Wrigley. The fact that I am now associated with WGN, given that show business is not my day job, is a real hoot!

[*Keep your ears warm this winter on the weekends by listening to WGN!*]
