This Month's Spotlight: Your Money with Bill Moller

What's your background in finance and what's your background in radio?

I have learned to love and loath money and come to appreciate the need to understand the seductive force it holds over us in playing on our emotions. I have hosted several television business programs on CLTV News in Chicago. In the course of those shows and on WGN Radio I have talked with the smartest money people in the world. And you know, they're not even always sure about the wily ways of money.

In radio I have hosted a jazz show in New Orleans and did news at the other mighty voice of the midwest, WHO in Des Moines. And as a kid my brother and I would record radio programs on a cheap reel-to-reel player and have good fun pretending to be announcers. Don't know how he ended up in the railroad biz.

What do you enjoy most about doing your show?

Man, I just love talking with WGN's listeners and helping them. Whether it's doing a better job managing debt, not following the crowd in your investing decisions or learning how to be more successful in your job, it's a pretty good feeling to be helping listeners do things better. I also enjoy waving at people walking by the Showcase Studio.

When you're not behind the mic, what can we find you doing?

My favorite job other than radio is to immerse myself in my family. There's nothing better than joining my wife and cheering at our son's swim meets or at his theater productions (he was an Oompa Loompa in Willy Wonka this summer). Bike riding, walks to the Daily Scoop ice cream store in Clarendon Hills, or everyone piling onto the big bed to read their favorite book, there's nothing like doing things together. I also enjoy playing jazz piano.

In these tough financial times, what's your #1 tip to listeners?

When it comes to money, don't do ANYTHING unless you're sure it's the best thing for you. There's an awful lot of advice out there and a lot of it is, well, awful. On Your Money with Bill Moller we help listeners make smart decisions by giving them the chance to put their questions in front of a lot of smart people.

*Keep your ears warm this winter on the weekends by listening to WGN!*
