It was a short-lived romance but it's over: Google has left radio. Google, which went ga-ga in 2006 when it launched Google Audio Ads and Google Radio Automation, saw it as a way to scoop up extra radio inventory across the country and monetize it, making money for its own coffers, and being the big daddy to soon-to-expire airtime. And while the idea became a sweating point for many a radio CEO who worried "to Google, or not to Google," it never became a factor in the way radio sales operated and it certainly never became a cash cow for Google.
