WLS-TV adds digital lifestyle channel
WLS-Ch. 7 and the nation’s nine other ABC-owned television stations today launched “Live Well HD,” an ad-supported multi-platform lifestyle channel that will be managed by Channel 7 boss Emily Barr and William Burton, vice president of digital media for the station group.

The channel, broadcast locally on digital channel 7.2 and available online at livewellhd.com as well as through wireless networks, will have six original half-hour programs, including “Let’s Dish,” which will feature Chris Koetke, dean of the School of Culinary Arts at Kendall College, offering tips on preparing healthy meals.

Other shows will be “Home with Lisa Quinn,” featuring home makeovers; “Mirror, Mirror,” for beauty and fashion; “Advice for Life”; “Motion” on outdoor activities; and “Say Ahhh…,” a program dedicated to health and medical news produced in conjunction with Chicago-based Answers Media LLC.

“The transition to digital television brings with it a tremendous opportunity for new channels and fresh programming,” Barr said in a statement. “We created Live Well HD for a national audience hungry for high definition programming that will help them make sense of their busy lives.”

Combined the 10 ABC-owned stations cover approximately 24 percent of the country. Besides WLS, there is WABC-TV in New York, KABC-TV in Los Angeles, WPVI-TV in Philadelphia, KGO-TV in San Francisco, KTRK-TV in Houston, WTVD-TV in Raleigh-Durham, KFSN-TV in Fresno, WJRT-TV in Flint and WTVG-TV in Toledo.
