An update from out here in Denver.

Jay's wife Mary provided a very sobering account of his condition during a call to substitute host David Sirota on KKZN-AM in Boulder, Colorado yesterday morning.

Jay is still in an intensive-care unit. There was a 3-inch balled mass located between thoracic vertebrae T6 and T9 in Jay's back. That mass was connected to what she called a "rope" which was wrapped around his spine and extended near his aorta.

Jay was experiencing uncontrollable tremors, could barely talk and couldn't stand. His doctors called in an internist and a thoracic surgeon. An earlier biopsy didn't yield enough information, so another one was performed. They drained fluid from around Jay's right lung, and may have to go back in to drain around his left one.

Jay is now on a breathing machine, but Mary says he is aware, knows her, and seems to her to be better than he was. He's being given antibiotics. She says he'll be in the hospital 10 days to 2 weeks, then remain on the antibiotics at home for 2 months at least.

The podcast of Mary's segment, in the 9 a.m. hour Wednesday, may still be available at am760.net.

Jay's work e-mail is still functioning, and you can send condolences there. It's jaymarvin@clearchannel.com .
