Molly Kelly named WCIU station manager

Molly Kelly, who has been in charge of marketing and promotions for Weigel Broadcasting's WCIU-Ch. 26 and the company's other Chicago properties, has been promoted to station manager.

The position overseeing oversee the day-to-day operations of the marketing, promotion, content, programming and the Web departments for WCIU and its Me TV, Me Too and This extensions here has been vacant since February. Kelly's predecessor, Fred Weintraub, moved to London to join his wife, who had taken on an assignment with British Petroleum.

"We are pleased to promote her from within our station ranks," Neal Sabin, Weigel Broadcasting's executive vice president, said in a statement. "Since joining our station group almost 3 years ago, she has proven herself as a leader and someone who can get the job done. Her background in production, traffic and news, promotion and marketing combined with her passion for local television make her great fit for station manager."

Kelly, who hails from Oak Park and is a graduate of Milwaukee's Marquette University, joined Weigel from the LIN TV stations in Grand Rapids and Battle Creek, Mich., where she was brand manager and manager of advertising and promotion. She began her career at Hearst-Argyle's WISN-TV, the ABC affiliate in Milwaukee, serving in the promotion, traffic and community affairs departments.

Through a spokeswoman, Kelly declined to give her age, saying she was "old enough to know how to do the job and young enough to have the energy to do it."
