Me thinks the checks bounced because he was tipped off to the FBI/SEC cases against him and he pulled all the money into a suitcase and has since fled the country to somewhere with no extradition. He'll hang out there for 7-10 years until the statute of limitations passes and then come back and probably do a version of this same crime again (judging by his past).
