Lightning knocks WBBM-AM (780) off the air for bit

News talk WBBM-AM (780) went off the air shortly after noon after its broadcast tower on Rohling Road was hit by lightning, a spokeswoman at the radio station said today. The signal was back by 12:40 p.m.

The spokeswoman said the radio station is trying to get back on air but has "no idea" when that will be.

The lighning strike occurred while severe weather rolled across the Chicago area.
