K-Love stations do it that way because their "stations" are nothing more than a satellite dish connected to a hard drive. Having EAS access is an FCC must and there's no staff at the local level to provide a verbal warning. They let EAS handle it because they have to.

But, before you head to 94.3 when there's a tornado, know this: a tornado could be roaring up Michigan Avenue and K-Love will be feeding you the latest Christian contemporary music from an uplink in California rather than any local content. At least the tamborine beat might just go with the gyrations of the tornado!!

That's just how EMF runs things: their stations sound exactly the same whether you're in Bangor, Maine; Little Rock, Arkansas; or here. They're killers of local radio stations.

If there's severe weather, WBBM is normally your best bet. With them off for a while today (a fluke), I went to WGN and got a pretty timely update on the weather. WLS also had extended news/traffic/weather every 30 minutes for a while today, joining the Rush-less Rush Limbaugh show in progress. All three of them did an excellent job today.

: If you want to hear the EAS go off I would highly suggest trying K-Love 94.3. WKMZ in Milwaukee (K-Love) the EAS went off automaticly for T-Storm Warnings, Tornado Warnings and even a flash flood warning (Never heard the EAS go off for a flash flood warning)
