Actually, I remember. I was the program director at WONC who put together the entry when the station won the Billboard magazine award for College Station of the Year in 1974. (Amazingly, I was reminded a few weeks ago that Billboard did not hand out a CHR award that year because no entries showed enough creativity!)

I'll take credit for those jingles. But I'd just as soon forget 20/20 News.

I applaud John Madormo and his student staff for continuing the tradition of excellence at WONC. The station's always been about serving the greater community and it does that now, as then, with distinction.

From my years at NCC, people like Bucky Albright, Dave Douglas and Mark Morris are still working in radio. But John could name dozens of students he's trained that are successful in the business today, including Scott Slocum at WJOL and the Manno Brothers at Q-101. He has a right to be proud of what he's accomplished.

And I applaud your good memory, Dan.

: Who remembers when WONC was an award winning CHR complete with jingles and 20/20 news?
