WGN-AM's Max Armstrong takes new post, will remain Orion Samuelson's Saturday co-host

Longtime WGN-AM 720 newsman Max Armstrong is joining the agriculture media company Farm Progress as director of broadcasting, effective July 6, but will continue as Orion Samuelson's co-host on the station's farm-oriented "The Morning Show" on Saturdays at 5 a.m.

Armstrong, an agribusiness reporter at WGN-AM for more than 30 years, will oversee Farm Progress’ recent addition of a broadcast business unit, which will provide content on agricultural concerns for radio, television and the Internet.

"Max is a true broadcaster and icon in the agricultural community," Tom Langmyer, WGN-AM's vice president and general manager, said in a statement. "We are not only happy for him in his new position but also pleased that Max will continue to be part of the WGN radio family."

WGN-AM parent Tribune Co. also owns the Chicago Tribune.

Farm Progress's history dates back nearly 200 years to 1819 with American Farmer magazine. Its Prairie Farmer, launched in 1841, is reputed to be the oldest continuously published magazine.

The St. Charles-based concern's properties include 22 magazines serving nearly 1 million subscribers, as well as complementary Web sites and newsletters. It is part of Fairfax Media Limited, headquartered in Australia.
