A boring TV screen with tunes playing reminds me of several Chicago UHF channels back in the 70's:

Channel 26 - I think they used to run classical music during 'Stock Market Observer' as stock prices were scrolling across the screen, when the hosts did not have anything to talk about.

Channel 32 - For some reason, the station didn't sign-on until around 10:00 AM (even in the late 70's). In the mornings prior to the sign on, before Kathy McFarland came on with the news, WFLD had a test pattern on the screen with Top 40 oldies playing.

Channel 44 - in the early 70's they used to run a news ticker on the screen throughout the day with music playing.

I recall in the 80's one of the UHF channels used to run a news ticker with music during overnights (after midninght) but I don't remember which channel it was. Does anyone know?
