WFMT's "Studs Terkel: Montage of a Life" Wins Gold World Medal and Grand Award From the New York Festivals

Press Release -- July 18, 2009

The radio documentary special Studs Terkel: Montage of a Life, a production of 98.7WFMT, has been honored with a prestigious Gold World Medal in the category of Culture and the Arts from the New York Festivals Radio Programming and Promotions Awards. The Grand Jury of international industry professionals received entries from more than 30 countries.

In addition to the Gold World Medal, Studs Terkel: Montage of a Life won a special Grand Award from NYF for receiving one of the highest scores in the competition, one of only four entries so honored.

Studs Terkel: Montage of a Life is an audio journey through the abundant interviews, program excerpts, musical interludes, e-mails and phoned-in testimonials WFMT broadcast in memorial tribute to Studs Terkel on the weekend that he died.

It begins with a straightforward representation of what the station broadcast on October 31, 2008 -- the day that Studs passed away, and evolves into an impressionistic portrayal of the man, his work, and the impact he made on those who knew him.

The program was produced by Louise Frank and Peter Whorf. Executive Producer: Steve Robinson. Edited by Louise Frank with contributions from Noel Morris, Dan Goldberg and Matt DeStefano. Production Coordinators: Don Mueller and Louise Frank. The producers also wish to acknowledge everyone who worked on Studs Terkel's radio program throughout his 45 years as a fixture on WFMT -- their invaluable contributions made this special tribute possible.
