Olympics Bit

As decision time nears, Chicago Olympic officials are pulling out all the, um, stops to win the coveted summer games.

The Chicago 2016 Olympic Committee is planning to use video segment brimming with local "celebrities" to wow the IOC.

And if Steve Dahl and Lovie Smith don't knock their socks off, we're not sure anything will work.

Dahl, a long-time Chicago radio personality, and Smith, the Bears head coach, are among the head-scratching headliners slated to appear in the music video-style advertisement intended to bolster Chicago's bid for the games. Other "celebrities" will include Jay Cutler, Garry Meier, Jonathan Brandmeier and Ozzie Guillen.

Feel free to take a moment and look those people up on Google.

Shooting for the video begins on August 26, near the "Bean" in Millennium Park. Poi Dog Pondering composed the music for the ad and furniture magnate Tim Smite, of Walter E. Smithe furniture fame will produce (not star) in the short flick.

The celebrities in the video will all use sign language to spell out "2016" and declare that they back the bid.

Chicago is one of four finalist cities to receive the games. Representatives from Rio de Janeiro, Madrid and Tokyo will travel along with a Chicago delegation to Copenhagen Denmark for their final pitch. The IOC will vote on the cities on Oct. 2 after seeing the presentation.

Let's just hope the IOC didn't expect to see actual Chicago celebrities like John Cusak and Jeremy Piven.
