We have a joke in my church: at the Pearly Gates there are two doors. One is marked "Heaven" and the second is marked "Seminar about Heaven". And the members of our church all go for the second door.

What is the point of yammering on about sports all day? Where is the entertainment value in that? You don't get full from watching Gordon Ramsay or Julia Child. You don't have an orgasm from talking about sex. Why not either watch the game or better yet, get off your arse and kick a football around?

I'm serious. What is the point of sports talk? I honestly don't get it. One needs to be informed about how the corporations and the government are calluding to screw the general populace. One needs to know the latest epidemic or drug or food recall. It's helpful to know where the traffic tie-ups are, or what the weather will be like, and it's a good idea to know where the crime sprees are happening so you can use extra caution in those areas, but what can possibly be gained by dissecting to the subatomic level the goings on in the NHL or the NFL or the baseball leagues?

What don't I get here??? I love music, but I wouldn't tune in to a channel that just talks about the minutiae of every technique used in recording Steely Dan's Aja album. I'd rather listen to the record.
