Evanston couple wins new 'Man Cave'

Reality show on DIY network to feature the transformation

September 24, 2009 | Chicago Sun-Times

Dave Roseman is a diehard White Sox fan. His wife Becca is just as strong in her devotion to the Chicago Cubs.

There may be a family feud over which Chicago baseball team is best, but they put their rivalries aside in their quest to win a baseball man cave.

Earlier this summer the Evanston couple entered "Who Wants a Man Cave?" They submitted a video to the contest, sponsored by DIY Network and MLB Network, explaining why they deserved the ultimate man cave/sports den. Their entry hit a home run.

So, recently the two cable networks and their construction crew descended on the Rosemans' 110-year-old farmhouse for the creation of the man cave, where they'll be able to haggle over which team to watch for years to come.

The man cave is in their garage, but the challenge for the construction crew was to create something so the space could still function as a garage. In just one day they created the mecca, which includes official MLB merchandise from both their teams, furnishings and fun high-tech toys.

TV viewers can watch the construction at 8 p.m. Tuesday on DIY Network's "Man Caves." (It will be shown again at 8 p.m. Oct. 26 on the MLB Network.)

The next challenge for the Rosemans: figuring out what team their firstborn, who is expected any day now, will root for in the 2010 baseball season.
