The longtime radio voice of the Fighting Illini has passed away. Larry Stewart, who did the radio broadcasts for the University of Illinois football & Basketball games for around 36 years, passed away Monday in Camarillo, Calif., where he had lived after his retirement in 1980 (after living in Florida for a few years first).

Stewart died from complications that arose after a fall in his own home this past weekend.

He served as General Manager of Champaign radio station WDWS for many years, where he had a long running talk show.

Stewart received his Bachelor's Degree in radio journalism from the U of I. While a student at U of I, it is said that comedians Arte Johnson and Allan Sherman were fraternity brothers of his.
