Bob Coburn never worked at WLUP. He actually worked at The Loop's competitor. Starting in 1979 he was Program Director and afternoon DJ at WMET when the station flipped from Top 40 to AOR (Album Oriented Rock). IMO he was a better PD than anyone who came after him at WMET.

Bob worked at KMET in Los Angeles before coming to Chicago. As most people know, Bob is the current host (but not the original host) of the syndicated show 'Rockline'.

Nowdays there are 2 'Rockline' shows. Monday nights is the 'Active Rock' show and Wednesday nights nights is the mainstream 'Album Rock' show. 'Will Rock' 95.1 WIIL Kenosha airs only the Monday night show, even though WIIL continues to play tracks that do not belong on an Active Rock station. I don't understand why both of the shows are not airing on any downtown Chicago stations.

I remember when WMET first went AOR in 1979, Tom O'Toole, Patty Haze, and Bill Evans were hired away from WLUP, and Scott McConnel came from WXRT.

I think I heard somewhere that Bob Coburn worked at the old WGLD 102.7 from Oak Park (now WVAZ). Can someone confirm this? Does anyone have more information about WGLD?
