Lakeshore Public Television & Radio Announce New Board Leadership

Northwest Indiana Public Broadcasting, Inc. (NIPB), parent company of Lakeshore Public Television & Radio, recently installed new leadership of the corporation's Board of Directors. The newly-elected members, chosen by current board members, include: John Meyer, Chairman; Pete Doherty, Co-Vice Chairman; and Dr. Bonita Neff, Co-Vice Chairman.

John Meyer succeeds Larry G. Alt, who stepped down as chairman at the conclusion of his six-year term. Meyer is President of Meyer Broadcasting Corporation, the parent company of Meyer Multi-Media Services, TheBreez.com and Indiana-Sports.com. John has served on NIPB's Board of Directors since 2005 and has played a key role in the growth of the corporation over this time period.

"Many positive plans have been instituted during Larry Alt's tenure as chairman. My goal as incoming chairman along with Tom Carroll and the board of directors is to expand and fine tune those programs to better serve our listening and viewing audience," said Meyer.

Pete Doherty has served on the board of directors since 2004. Doherty is a retired regional president of Citizens Financial Bank. He is now president of Doherty Images, LLC, a company he started in 2005. A freelance photographer, he specializes in Chicago lakefront and Indiana Dunes photography. Doherty also provides commercial photography services to numerous Northwest Indiana and Chicago businesses and organizations.

Doherty comments, "I'm privileged to be a part of such a dynamic team of dedicated employees and board members that have made Lakeshore PTV and Radio a leading media source for Northwest Indiana."

Dr. Bonita Neff has served on NIPB's board since 1999. She acts as board liaison to the Community Advisory Board. Dr. Neff is an associate professor and head of the Public Relations Department at Valparaiso University.

"My role as a member of the board of directors spans over four terms (three terms on the executive board) and primarily focuses on research. Such research projects have confirmed our viewing share for Lakeshore for our news project (further affirmed by Nielsen ratings) and my students' research (public relations majors at Valparaiso University) was presented to the Corporate for Public Broadcasting and was identified as a model research design for the rest of the nation's PBS television stations. The feedback has established a growing relationship between our public radio station (89.1-WLPR) and Lakeshore TV," Neff remarked.

The 21-member board includes representatives from a variety of local industries. Previously-elected board officers who will continue their service include: Peggy Rogers, Treasurer; Tina Popp, Secretary; Thomas E. Carroll, President & CEO. Current board members include: Larry Alt, Calvin Bellamy, Charles L. Blum, Dr. Larry Brechner, Cornelia Brown, Peter Candela, Arthur Collins, Renee Connelly, Sheriff Roy Dominguez, Larry Evans, Larry Hunter, Fred McNulty, Tom Moriarty, Joel Palaschak, Dewey Pearman and Reverend John Johnson, Director Emeritus.

Lakeshore PTV can be viewed over the air and on satellite through DirecTV and Dish Network on Channel 56, on cable channel 17 in most Northwest Indiana communities, and on 17 and 21 in Chicago and its suburbs.
