Most recently, Bob had been working locally with Matt Smith's Fox Rock Communications out of Skokie, lending his voice to work for them. He also did some part-time production work for WGN.

I found the following on 440int.com, where Bob/Bill personally wrote about his radio name a couple of years ago:

'Bob Dayton (Bill Harper) says,

Not to be confused with the Bob Dayton of WABC fame (or infame if you know the story): I was given the air name when I moved to Minneapolis (my first major-market radio gig) by the late Dave Woodling who was PD at WMIN. Bob Dayton is CEO of Dayton/Hudson Corp. and they wanted to sell a chunk of advertising to them.

My air name was confusing to some later on when, in 1971, I was recognized in the annual Billboard air talent competition for Midday Air Personality at WDGY. Gary Owens called me from L.A. thinking I was the other Bob Dayton and we had a brief conversation.

Used Bill Harper when in Denver because one of the guys on air was Bob Clayton (Charlie Cook); then when I was approached by Craig Scott of Plough Broadcasting to do morning drive in Chicago, I discovered there was a Bill Hart on the air. So I returned to Bob Dayton and have kept the name ever since.

I was production manager at WMAQ/Chicago for their News/Sports format, having also been air talent for the station from 1985 to 1988 when owned by NBC.'

He will be missed.
